I visited a beautiful Bookshop located in the center of Arnhem called “Het Colofon” predominately a Dutch language Bookshop and hosting a beautiful cafe.  They have a large music collection and used book section.  It’s worth the visit.

Interview with Michael Chabon

Hi there, I interviewed Michael Chabon in Amsterdam last week.  Michael Chabon won the Pulitzer prize in 2001 for “The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay”.

He was in Amsterdam talking about his new book “Moonglow”.   I was delighted to interview him the interview is on

I didn’t take Piko with me as I wasn’t sure that they would allow my little Jack Russel to participate.  I have another video coming up and he is in it with me.

The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams

We are pleased to announce another collaboration with Toneelgroep Amsterdam, this time with their performance of Tennessee Williams’ legendary play The Glass Menagerie (Glazen Speelgoed). This is the first play directed outside America by rising star Sam Stone. The Glass Menagerie, one of the most powerful plays of the 20th century, is a tale of love, loss and the disparate hopes and dreams of a family at odds. The Dutch version of Glazen Speelgoed has been highly praised and actor Chris Nietvelt has been nominated for the Theo d’Or Award for her role as Amanda Wingfield. Eelco Smits has also been nominated for the Arlecchino Award for his role as Tom Wingfield.

On September 22nd, Glazen Speelgoed will be performed with English surtitles. On that same evening, the John Adams will host a special pre-event at the Stadsschouwburg with dramaturgist Vera Hoogstad and two of the actors about the play and Tennessee Williams. Madonna in a fur coat by Sabahattin Ali

“Madonna in a fur coat” by Sabahattin Ali

A long, slow and burning story.  We were thinking where is this book going?  And halfway through the book, the narrative picks up and reveals the plot to the reader.  A dark and secretive protagonist reveals a story for the reader that continues towards a crescendo with devastating consequences.  I could not help but wonder if this story was a passionate romance story or a story about the utmost levels of human selfishness.  This is not a “light, page turner” but a dark and complicated romance like a box of dark and rich chocolate.   Reader you decide but take your time reading the book.
